Hi Heath, Thanks for connecting. Just a writer truing to learn how to turn dreams into Jaws. Lots to learn.

Here's the story: a man sits in a coffee shop for a full business day and has 5 different conversations with 5 different people throughout the day. Each conversation reveals a little more about the man's character and values, as we lead up to the big reveal of why he is sitting in this coffee house in the first place—which will be my part of the story, as well as threading the five conversations together. Each conversation will be approx 15 minutes(pages) long, thus making up a feature length film of about 1:15-1:30. Don't know where this will go, but it might be fun to find out together. What do you think?
I'm interested. Sent you a request so I can PM you.
Awesome, Heath!! It's Sunday, so I'm going to go and spend some time with the family now but hit me up and I will respond tomorrow. Thanks!!

If you have a family friendly film project and some development funds available let me know. I have access to production funds for developed projects that are good stories and have screenplays that can make a good family friendly film.
Development funds are to analyze the screenplay and coverage with budget and schedule discussions. Production funds are for the start of project after development, casting, crew, locations, etc., etc. What is the name of your script. And is that QUICKSAND.COM?
I have an excellent family friendly script that is developed and gone rounds with script consulting with favorable reviews.
If you would like me to review, please email to grc777@att.net. Do you have a budget, also?
Hello & thank you you for the add Heath, much appreciated. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2756257/

I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but I'll still love to get some input from writers out there about the pro and cons of the most commonly used software.
I've been using Celtix and except for a few minor issues, it works quite well. It's also free.
I have a pretty cool Celtx workflow from cards to script, even location shots. I use the apps on iPad as well as the website. Very happy with it.
Movie Magic Screenwriter is my weapon of choice.

I am currently looking into Postgrad courses but I would like to know if any of you guys actually needed a degree to pursue a job in editing? I am an amateur, I make them from a crappy laptop that crashes every 10 minutes, but I am saving for a computer right now to raise the quality of my videos. I have only had the chance to make fanvideos, one of them was actually played on Entertainment Tonight WORLD WIDE. But that does not mean I am good enough for a job prospect which is why I am asking for your advice :) Here is a recent one I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_yvvpfo5nk

Once you can cut, then start putting a demo together with the help of a couple local shooter or something. Then find a couple student projects and start editing those... and work your way into editing for a living.
You do not need a degree. Just get in where you fit in. In the meantime cut anything and everything you can get your hands on. Pick a software and master it. Learn how to color correct as well. Basics nothing to fancy.

Expand commentIt seems like everyone has covered a lot here, but I'll just add one thing. Experience is everything. You don't need a degree so don't waste your money unless you may want to teach in the future - a degree is important for that and it's a far more steady job than many in our industry. Beyond doing as much work as possible (even for free with friends or for low-pay in between other jobs if you want), I'd also recommend finding a mentor. I never had one myself, but have seen through many, and from people who I've worked with, that it's far quicker and more rewarding than school. And if you find the right one it will be much less expensive! Not to mention you're learning real world issues as you cut along with seeing why an editor makes story-based decisions as she or he cuts. Best of luck to you!
Thanks for the add. Hauntings of the Heart sounds like an awesome project. Can't wait to hear more about it.
Nice to meet you Heath, and thank you for your interest in Hauntings of the Heart!

Expand postHello everybody! I am a professional visual effects artist that has also directed a few shorts. It is great to see you all online, but I would like to invite everyone to meet for a brainstorming session. The goal of this it to discover one another's project ideas and figure out if any of them are doable. I certainly have some project ideas and I am hoping to connect with talented folks that would like to collaborate. Time and place will be determined once I get feedback from interested parties.
I'd be interested in this. Please let me know what I can do to help.
If you could help spread the word that would be great! I am mostly looking for people in the Vancouver area, so if enough people sign on we can make a Facebook group and schedule meetings.
