A good DP friend of mine says that all directors should be forced to edit their early efforts as it is a great learning process for your future work. I edit with Adobe CS6 and use After Effects for all my post production work. There are also encoding options in After Effects so you can set it up like a DVD.

Learn the basics of editing. How and why things are done not just the program. It will help you in the long run. If you understand the basics you can cut on any program. Final Cut 7 is still used I call it old faithful (rendering blows on it). For quick projects I use FinalCutX but for a feature I would advice against it. Avid is the windows standard. I don't get why people say premiere. Yes, it is used but not as much as you think. It comes down to whatever you can get your hands on and you like!

I use Adobe Premiere Pro. Been using it since 1.5 I've tinkered around with Avid Media Composer but I like Premiere Pro better :)

Canon 7d is my choice.

Producers will always try to "bundle" you and your gear. your value and or the camera value will get squeezed. and it is hard to be clear . I know a few DOP that only travel on their lenses. then the value of their DOP work and the cost of the camera body are distinct and match the scale and intent of the film.

When I first went back to school I purchased a Sony PB 150 I figured it was good enough for QT it will be good enough for me... so far it has done its job and then some.

I've been using a combination of the RED EPIC, AND CANNON 5D mark III's on my Sports show "Get 2 the Game"

I rent out a RED Epic so am lucky enough to be able to shoot on it for many of my projects. When I can't manage that I shoot on the 5D mark II. I have a lot of fun the with RED and am still learning all its tricks (especially on the post side of things). The 5D had super crisp images but it definitely lacks some character. I love the Epic and I've seen it turn out great shots even to the inexperienced. Ideally though, I'd be shooting film. I've only ever shot 16mm but for me it makes a better experience and hold people to a higher standard.

Doesn't matter. All that matters is if it will sell. That depends mostly on the art (poster) and name talent. If you don't have names, consider this an addition to your resume to prove you can make a film when you do your next project with name talent.

thanks guys for the advice, im adding really good stories to the characters, i am making loads of characters have a little story to tell in it :)

my plan is to introduce slow and fast zombies so the film will be at a pace that will be frightening because it is something that is that all round expected, the characters that will be shown will have their story to tell and my way is showing the cruelness of colonialism and also put dread that they will feel when being hunted this way in the spiritual world with zombies all around them, but for the first time ever you will see em in a new light and have sympathy for them with what is going on , see that these people are also human beings that lived their own lives and only joined the army for separate reasons.There will be a element of ' we deserved this' kinda aspect of it but will have sadness in it aswell as they will soon realise that they will never see there loved ones again and that they will all die......and no-one will ever know about it..... :)

C'mon folks, as the diverse reaction shows, this is such a subjective question that everyone will have a different answer! We are in the "Arts" and art is subjective therefore the worlds best actor can range from Daniel Day Lewis to Mr Tumble! Besides, it's me, I've just managed to keep it quiet so far! :) Nice topic RB, good discussion generator!

Thanks for this reminder Richard - Christopher Walken is one of those special actors who can make you twist and turn with just a slight facial movement and has never seemed to fall into the trap of staying "Safe" like so many of the other top actors have done. Also - maybe we can start a campaign for "Mr. Tumble"

Daniel Day- Lewis is one of the greats. Loved him "There Will Be Blood" Not sure if I'd call him 'the' greatest.

it is a fair statement. he's the best of his generation.
