Roger Deakins and his love for Cinema

I really enjoyed this article on Roger Deakins and how he came to love cinema. They way he talks about shooting on film and the simplicity of it brings back memories when I was in film school. Love it. Movie making is just magic.

Thanks for sharing, Ryan Little. Wow, Roger Deakins was the cinematographer on some BIG movies! "1917" is one of my favorite War movies.

I agree with Roger when he said, "What the audience wants, what people want as entertainment, has changed," but I don't think filmmaking has changed beyond repair. True, some parts of filmmaking need to be repaired, but it's not beyond repair. I've seen some unique and incredible films in the past few years, and I think these films will continue to be made.

Ryan Little Thanks Ryan, my love for Roger Deakins knows no bounds. In a previous share, I posted a video interview between cinematographers on THR I think.

Deakins was astounded at the lack of knowledge in the history of cinema. He mentioned Jean Pierre Melville’s ‘Army of Shadows’ and the amazing cinematography.

With that in mind we are looking at having a Cinematography Lounge showing of the Army of Shadows. I’ll be writing a blog article shortly, to fan a few flames of interest. The idea is to start a conversation on cinematography and directing and get our community more engaged with filmmaking.

Will keep you posted.

Maurice and Geoff. Thanks for the replies. I think you have very valid points and certainly we are lucky to. be a part of this film community and I think some beautifully crafted films are coming.

This is great Ryan Little . Roger is one in a generation. He does everything with such ease, it's quite extraordinary. I've been a fan for as long as I've been a cinematographer and his work keeps impressing me film after film. He is just a natural.
