Composing : I sat down at the piano, and accidentally started writing a song... by Kat Spencer

Kat Spencer

I sat down at the piano, and accidentally started writing a song...

And I immediately said, “Oops.”

Not because I hit the wrong note.

But because I stumbled onto a song—real inspiration—and my first thought was, “No, not today.”

Why?

Because producing it would take more time than I have right now.

And if I start writing it, I will finish it. That’s just how I’m wired.

But my spirit hasn’t caught up yet.

It’s still lagging behind, trying to catch its breath from all the other things I’ve already created and am still trying to market.

My heart is in creating.

My need is in marketing.

Do you ever find yourself in that space?

Maurice Vaughan

I've been there, Kat Spencer. Sometimes I'll finish the project right away, and sometimes even though I want to finish the project right then, I'll put it away for later since I don't have time.

Wyman Brent

Kat Spencer, I find myself there all the time. I have written hunrdreds of songs and still writing them. Plus, four animated series, four films and a stage musical. Then yesterday I accidentlally created what could be one of the most viral tunes of all time. This is no time for moedsty. I created a catchy little tune (High Jinka) which consists entirely of nonsense words. That tune is fun enough. However, that is not it. My twisted mind decided to try the exact same words and turn it into a sea shanty called High Seas Jinka. I believe this could go as big as The Duck Song with the right video and promotion. So, I am not a videographer. Have to figure out what to do. Any suggestions are most welcome.

Kat Spencer

Wyman Brent Hahaha, nice! As for "I'm not a videographer," become one! Or find one on here. I'm sure there are plenty who would love to help.

Maurice Vaughan - I have found that if I put it away, I never return. Out of sight, out of mind, and a little Dory brain :) At least when it comes to musical ideas. I usually write them in 2 hours or so (or the whole night, but never longer). So, if I say "oops" and continue, it means, I'll be up late haha.

Julien Ober

I dream of being able to spend my time solely on writing and producing. But there are so many other things I have to manage on the side!

Kat Spencer

Julien Ober I hear that! How much time do you get to spend on writing and producing now?

Julien Ober

Kat Spencer Currently 10 hours/day. But since I don't earn enough money from these activities, I'm forced to take a job on the side from time to time, which greatly reduces my production time to 2/3 hours/day.
