Stage 32 Screenwriting Lab: Write a Drama TV Pilot in 8 Weeks - From Concept to Completed Script

Hi All,

Thank you so much for joining us in class! I wanted to make a lounge link for you all before, during, and after Spencer's class to stay connected.

Please tell us what are some of your favorite moments in class so far and what you are working on and/or learning?

Anzu Lawson

I’ve only done one day but I am very excited and Spencer is so personable with so much “give” And a wealth of knowledge oozing out of his pores. I am a little nervous at how much Hass to be written in such a short time but I’m up for the challenge

Deven Alex Sumner

Yeah I'm definitely feeling the pressure cooker when it comes to the production of the words too!

Beverley Wood

Good point Anzu, I haven't done a word count. Just getting it out of my head and onto paper right now. It sounded so much better in my head :)

Rosemary Lokhorst

Hi everyone. Good to meet you all here, too. Yeah, it's rough. I still don't have all the details in my head, never mind on the page :) but it will all work out, I am sure!

Deven Alex Sumner

Wine helps!

Gayle Herbert Robinson

Hi everyone, I'm a little late getting to the party. I'm having fun with these character sketches, but I'm only working on two so far. I've gotta pick up the pace. I'm hashing out my 2025 world. I'm excited about this class. It's going to be a lot of work, but we can do this! A drama pilot in 7-weeks, here we go...aw yeah!. See ya soon!

Janice Carlberg

I love this class, great to meet you all. Would love to be part of a writing group, anyone interested?

Can't wait for the next class.

Deven Alex Sumner

I'm definitely interested in a writing group.

Sarah Teres

I have a conflict for the first two weeks so I'm playing catch-up via the recordings but I'm looking forward to joining everyone soon! I already know some of you from other classes and Anzu Lawson , I'm not 100%, but I "think" I met you in person at WIM party at Sundance in 2019? Is that possible?

Rosemary Lokhorst

Hello everyone. I missed this week's class, so will listen to the recording, but look forward to the next session. I am also open for a writing group. Perhaps more towards the end of the 8 weeks here?

Anzu Lawson

haven't done sundance yet but maybe in 2023! Sarah Teres

Sarah Teres

Anzu Lawson Ah, then it wasn’t you!

Beverley Wood

Hi Everyone. What are you all watching at the moment and would you share your recommendations? I will do the same. I've just finished binge-watching Mad Men (where have I been?) I really liked it for its historical context and the rich layering of its A, B and C stories.

Deven Alex Sumner

Watching bits of the Elite pilot along with The Haunting of Hill House, the latter to see how much they followed the original pilot script.

Beverley Wood

Thanks Deven, I'll take a look at both of those - are they on Netflix?

Deven Alex Sumner

Yep, they're both on Netflix.

Gayle Herbert Robinson

Janice, thanks for responding to my request to start a writer's group with our drama pilot members. I can be reached at: bythescribe@gmail.com.

Hello all—I've been following along for the first few classes because I had a conflict the first few, so last week was my first "live" class.

My email is:

seteres@serqetproductions.com

Not that anyone asked BUT....

This is my THIRD (!!) class with Spencer and I can say that he's incredibly knowledgeable and I've learned a lot from him in every class I've taken.

Re: Writer's Group: I am in a writer's group and have found it to be EXTREMELY helpful and (I think?) my writing has improved a lot from having been in a writer's group.

At the moment we are looking for a few new members, but not TOO many because in our experience, Writer's Groups work best if we keep the number on the smaller side. However, not everyone attends every session due to scheduling conflicts etc.

Half of us are on the East Coast of the USA, half are on the West Coast. I'm not sure if that matters for people looking to join writer's groups, but just thought I'd mention it.

Most people in the group are working on pilots, but there are a few working on features as well.

We're an Ethnically Diverse, Multi-Religious, LBGTQI+ (some are allies) Liberal group so if you're on the conservative side, we are not the group for you!

I also have a helpful "info" sheet from an instructor for writers starting writer's groups for anyone interested, I'm happy to send it along, just let me know!

Thanks and happy writing!

I've submitted to Sundance a few times. I think I'm wearing them down. He!-He! I'm determined to get into the Episodic Lab.

Sarah Teres

Just keep submitting! Eventually, you'll get in! :-) This business is all about attrition.
