Screenwriting : Blacklist Rating by Robert Rosenbaum

Blacklist Rating

I just received my first Black List rating on my new screenplay "The Manny." I received a seven, which I think is pretty good. It is my first time on the Black List. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to capitalize on it. I have paid for another review, but beyond is there something else to do on The Black List. Any success stories using The Black List?

I put a pilot up in the first days it was accepting pilots. It got a good review, was featured on their email list, and optioned soon thereafter. On the other hand, I have many friends who have gotten widely divergent reviews. In scientific terms, their interrater reliability needs work. Which is probably true for the whole industry.

Wow - congrats on that. I don't think one 7 rating on a feature gets you on their email list. Perhaps another good review will get it on the list. Do you have anything listed right now?

I received a well-written evaluation of my script for a fair price on the Black List. I am using the "notes" for a re-write which is already making the script better. If I am correct, one must receive an "8" before a script will make it on the email. "Q. Are industry pros contacted about my script if it receives a high rating from your readers? A. Every Monday, our industry professionals receive an email that includes the titles, authors, genres, and loglines of scripts that received high (8+) overall ratings from our paid readers. A single read with a high rating from our readers merits inclusion. On Fridays, emails go out listing titles, authors, genres, and loglines of scripts that receive high (8+) component scores in categories or genres where the industry pros have expressed specific interest."(https://blcklst.com/help/article/282)

I wonder how many people that got 7's keep paying for coverage hoping for that 8?

Kenneth W. Wood

There are several items, ranging from "premise" to the "development of characters", and everything in between. If the grades are low on the basic premise, The chances of getting an 8 may be slim. Things like character development can be improved easier than the premise.
