Bryan Dusseau

Feel free to ask me any questions. I will answer them on my daily posts.

Hi, my name is Bryan Dusseau. I am challenging myself to post on here everyday for the month of April. I am 28 years old. I have been a musician since I was 13 years old. I have been taking myself serious in film composing during the last 3 years. I have made quite the buzz, and I happen to be happy with what I have accomplished. Today I entered a screenplay I wrote into the 2nd Annual Stage 32 Happy Writers Feature Screenplay Contest. Why did I do that though? I am a composer. Well, I am trying to get my name out, and turn heads. I would like to direct my short film, and compose the music. This way, I have a sure fire way of catching someone's attention. I write music everyday, so writing and creativity is my forte'. I will continue to write screenplays when I have the time. I have two big ideas currently in my hear. So for this April challenge, I will be explaining the process I go through as a film composer. I will give you insight on how I go about composing for a film. I will explain what music really does for film, and how I watch films from a composer perspective. Feel free to ask me any questions. I will answer them on my daily posts. It is nice to meet everyone. Here is a taste of what my work sounds like: https://soundcloud.com/bryan-dusseau/bryan-dusseau-composer-demo-reel

Hi Bryan, welcome to the site. I've just listened to your soundcloud track and I think it's great. I'm a lyricist and song writer, I've been writing for over 30 years, so if you ever need a lyric to a title tune etc, please let me know :) onevoiceliteraryagency.com/mymusic

Thank you Rosalind, I will be sure to keep you in mind. I am a bit rusty with lyrics lately. Thank you Aray, it is nice to meet you.

Richard "RB" Botto

That selfless spirit is what this platform is all about, Bryan. Always appreciate those who are willing to give back.

Brad Christensen

Welcome to Stage 32. You have a wonderful portfolio. Looking forward to your posts. I work with a lot of musicians and it is always great to hear about different ways people go about the scoring process. :)

Jorge J Prieto

Bryan, great hearing all that got to share. Music is a powerful tool in film and many cases it can even save a film, it did it for JAWS, John Williams score was the shark's heart beat. It made the audience shake in their seats and we didn't even see the shark. As we all know the mechanical shark was not behaving. Music also made a huge impact in John Carpenter's Halloween, someone like you Bryan a musician and a writer /director, so you got this, buddy. Hope to hear more in future post. Oh, btw, I'm a screenwriter, not a musician, but love a great music score in film as you can see from my comments. Sorry if I over stepped my boundaries.

Bryan Dusseau

Thank you Brad. It is nice to meet you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Bryan Dusseau

Hi Jorge, thank you for the kind words. You didn't overstep your boundaries at all. I actually enjoyed what you had to say, and I agree with you as well. Timeless films have legendary original sound tracks.

Jorge J Prieto

Bryan: Just listened to your reel. Wow! You covered every emotion possible, from romantic, classical, suspenseful, action, touching, I could actually see your music in all kinds of film genres. Congrats, hope other composers here stop by. My girl, Brandi Thomas, another great musician in this great community, you both need to keep in touch.

Bryan Dusseau

Thanks for taking time to check my work out. That's just a taste ;) I'm happy to talk film or music anytime.

Jorge J Prieto

Great, buddy. This is the best place for all that and more.

Erin Groves

Be still my beating heart! I love this. I love this. Welcome to Stage 32! You have a beautiful sound.

Bryan Dusseau

Thanks Erin! This sure is an awesome place!

Charlotte Talley

Bryan Dusseau

Thanks so much Charlotte!

Rosalind Winton

And it's my dream to write a lyric for a film title score :) hope to work with you one day Bryan :)

Bryan Dusseau

Sounds like a plan Rosalind; )

Bryan Dusseau

Thank you Aray!

Bryan Dusseau

I am curious, what would be the best lounge to write my posts in? I am basically walking you through the process of what I do when I accept a film, to when I lock the film. This is mainly geared towards people who are not composers, although composers are more than welcome to read, interact, and ask questions.

Richard "RB" Botto

Who would you say this would benefit most, Bryan? Filmmakers? People working in post? If you click on Lounge you can see all the categories and descriptions of each section.

Bryan Dusseau

My aim is to educated Film makers about the process of composing a film.

Samuel Estes

Well if you are addressing the film composer community I would encourage you to use the Composer Lounge. My best advice is to try to keep things short and concise and cover one topic at a time, Like: Templates, or Using samples, etc... This way you can engage the community and keep it in a "what methods to you guys use" tone. Keep in mind the range of people here go from "just starting out" to "been in the industry a while". So you will get a range of responses as to how people work, and the hope is we all learn things along the way. It's all about engagement in the lounge and keeping the tone collaborative. But one thing to keep in mind it's not a place to showcase your music, I would encourage you to point to other composers (along with yourself) to how they do things and why you like it and how you've adapted it. Very excited you want to take the time to do this, really appreciate you wanting to be involved with S32! We have a great composing community here and can't wait to see your contribution.

Richard "RB" Botto

I agree with Samuel. However, I think you have something to offer readers and contributors of both the Filmmaking and Composing Lounge sections.

Bryan Dusseau

Thanks Sam. For the month of April, the goal for my posts is to educate Film Makers on what composers do. I won't be going into how to anything technical like gear, software, samples, theory. I will be going over steps like the ones I have posted so far "Accepting a film", "Studying, and spotting a film".

Samuel Estes

Ah, I understand now... Filmmaking would be a good spot too. May want to check out what Chris Lennertz did for S32 to get a good starting point, and a place to start filling in from.

Jorge J Prieto

Samuel : Great advice that we can all use. I'm not a musician, but always here to support ALL my fellow S32 artist in anyway that I can. Cheers, brother.

Bryan Dusseau

Thanks RB and Samuel. I will post in Filmmaking, and if it doesn't really work out, I'll move the posts to the composers lounge. Thanks Jorge!

Richard "RB" Botto

Cool, Bryan. And thanks again for all your contributions. Your selflessness shines through.

Bryan Dusseau

You're too kind RB. Thank you.

Richard "RB" Botto

Most welcome, my friend.

Amber Natterer

Wow, your music is wonderful.

Bryan Dusseau

Thank you Amber, that means a lot!
