Writing a Great Limited Location Script

My content share for today comes, courtesy of InkTip's. Michael Kim. My favorite limited location film, surprised it was not mentioned, is, Panic Room. Or maybe I'm wrong and it wasn't a limited location film. Any other favorite's, my fellow Stage 32 screenwriters and artists in general? https://www.inktip.com/article_single.php?a_id=173

InkTip - You Can Write a Killer One-Location Script
InkTip - You Can Write a Killer One-Location Script
Writing a limited-location script can be tough. Sure, we could come up with another premise about a man who invades a home and terrorizes a woman, but can we make our script shine? Even if you come up…

Jaws , half of the movie is on a boat.

Omar Quesada Pérez

Last Call, in a phone box... or even Buried (but if we must be honest, there's only one that is the more limited one: Inside Out! Just her head!)

Jaws? Really,Dan? Your joking, brother? Lol. Thanks, Dan and Omar, for stopping by.

LIFEBOAT fights WW2 on a lifeboat with a handful of survivors. WAIT UNTIL DARK (based on a stage play) is edge of the seat suspense in an apartment. Though APARTMENT ZERO has a few scenes outside the apartment, it's a fun thriller about finding the perfect roommate who only has one small problem - he's a serial killer. Would you help him hide a body because he cleans up after himself and pays rent on time? Most TWILIGHT ZONE episodes take place in only a couple of locations... and look at all of the imagination! CASABLANCA - mostly takes place at Rick's (it was also based on a stage play). One of my favorite recent thrillers - DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED - takes place in 2 rooms, with only 3 characters... and has dozens of great plot twists. (my "dog juice theory" is that all films need the same amount of entertainment value, so if you remove the ability to change locations every couple of minutes you need to add something to make up for it... like plot twists). Saw GREEN ROOM a few nights back - takes place in a really crappy road house bar, and most of the story takes place in the green room. I love to use SOURCE CODE as an example, because it has a big summer sci fi concept... but it takes place 1) On one car of a commuter train, 2) In a time travel capsule, 3) In the time travel mission control room, 4) Some stuff at the train station. That's it! Limited cast, too!

William: You are a human encyclopedia. Love everything that you hold in that brain of yours. Thanks, buddy. Don't need anyone else to stop by this op. BTW, you know, you are one of my favorite guest speakers on Film Courage.? So, thanks for that and for stopping by here.

What about, "The Desperate Hours" and "Twelve Angry Jurors"?? Can't remember, the first, but the ladder for sure. William?? By the way, did anyone brother to read the InkTip article? Dan??

Bill Costantini

The Descent and The Descent II take place mostly on a movie set of caves. Carnage mostly takes place in the apartment. Dogville mostly takes place on one set. Evil Dead mostly takes place in the cabin. The Man from Earth mostly takes place in a house. Some Velvet Morning takes place entirely in the house. All Is Lost takes place in the boat and the lifeboat (and the ocean). The Killing Room takes place mostly in the experiment room. And Locke takes place mostly in his car.

Rope. It's a single location Masterclass

Ben Sledge

Happy to see Twilight Zone and Rope mentioned! I second those. Both were inspirations for my current project, which is a one actor, one location film: The Recursion Theorem. We couldn't find a location (old affluent mansion) that was affordable and nearby, so we ended up building our location in a warehouse! It was a pretty cool experience. The film has been two years in the making and premieres in just over a month. I'd be honored if you check out the website at http://www.RecursionTheorem.com and http://www.facebook.com/RecursionTheorem and please follow me on Twitter @sledgeweb for more updates on the project!
