Hey there Stage 32ers!
I've been part of Stage 32 for 2 years now when I started learning how to write scripts and I have participated in a lot of their education programs and webinars but unfortunately haven't used it well enough to connect with others and get involved with the community. That's changed over the last several weeks and so I wanted to also re-introduce myself!
I'm an upcoming UK indie horror filmmaker with a lifelong love for the genre and a passion to tell unique original stories in the horror space. My journey in this industry started 2 years ago in 2018 when I finally decided to pursue my passion and started to learn about the film industry and teach myself how to write screenplays. I felt so strongly about one script I wrote in particular that I really wanted to see made, that in October 2019, having never been on a film set before, I jumped and just did it!
Throughout 2020 I continued writing scripts, learnt more about directing, got my first camera, bit by bit built up other equipment like lighting gear and started to learn how to edit and colour grade. I put the horror short I filmed (UNSEEING EVIL) into the festival circuit which ended up winning several awards in lower festivals, being nominated for first time director, being selected for mid level Atlanta Horror Film Festival and most proudly placing as a top 20 finalist in Film Riot's MakeFilm Challenge. I took my new fledgling skills and filmed three more horror shorts with my own equipment, two of which were during lockdowns with one of them (NEVER LOCK THEM AWAY) being screened by SCI-FI London Festival as part of a live panel and Q&A session with filmmakers filming during lockdown, where I got to show and speak about the film.
For 2021, I plan to shoot another two horror short POCs to go into the festivals and competitions of which are currently in development and I am developing the feature script of my first short UNSEEING EVIL to film my first feature myself the following year. So what steps have you taken or plan to take in 2021? I'd love to know or to simply have a chat and connect with like-minded creatives!
Best
