Hi Heidi, Do you have an account in Coverfly? It’s free and if you have, you can skim through the REDLIST for interesting loglines in your genre. Once you find an interesting one, request for the script. The scripts can be in the Redlist only because they have received some awards in good festivals. I like reading this way because you can read loglines first and select the ones that you like.
Sounds like a lot of fun, Heidi Pedersen! Bram Stoker's Dracula is pretty true to the novel.
Also, I would recommend checking out Shadow of the Vampire if you haven't seen it. It is a fictional account of the making of Nosferatu with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich. It is fairly obscure but really fun. And make sure to watch Nosferatu first if you haven't seen it yet.

Interview with the Vampire, for sure. And if you want an example of a great and insane script with the gothic vampire theme absolutely turned on its head, please find What We Do In the Shadows (the feature or the pilot, to be honest). It's genius and one of my very favorite things.
Absolutely agree with Angela. These two examples of the genre being used in two very different ways will show how conventions of the genre can be used for drama and how twisting these can be used for comedy.
Angela Cristantello I frickin' LOVE Interview with a Vampire, and strangely enough, it's become a family favorite LOL I'll have to check out What We Do In the Shadows, though. It's in my cue!
Try "Leptirica" (She Butterfly) a 70's Yugoslav movie. It's not goth but definitely folk vampire tale, probably most original presentation of the myth you'll see around.

Oh, I actually haven't watched that movie in a long time. Definitely have to take a look at that one again.

dig the imagination of Ari Aster. I bought a hardcover book of his first feature, comes with script & production pictures & storyboard.

A challenging genre with stiff competition, but everyone loves the vampire story.

Kathryn Bigelow's film Near Dark is one of the best. Simple plot. Really fun characters. Great atmosphere. Riveting to watch.
