Introduce Yourself : Great to be part of this innovative and talented global writing community... by Alexander Shaida

Great to be part of this innovative and talented global writing community...

I've been dipping in and out of Stage 32 for about a year, but I only started to become more actively involved since October of this year. I've been pushing myself to make verbal and written pitches, and have already received excellent detailed feedback via Zoom conversations by talented professionals who work in the industry through script consultancy/coverage.

Since completing my UCLA Screenwriting Diploma programme back in 2018, I have had the opportunity to join a handful of coached writer groups (these are mainly based in LA and usually tied into the UCLA community) and found them to be incredibly helpful. I'm a great believer in regularly seeking out professional industry feedback - I believe it makes a world of difference. I'm currently progressing from writing initial drafts for a number of spec scripts to rewriting each one of them as I start to see how much better they have to become. Writing is rewriting and rewriting... and regularly reading produced scripts is also a great way to help improve writing skills. Just downloaded a number of episode scripts from Yellowstone, one of the best shows on TV.

My present passion is writing thrillers. I've currently got two on the go (one about an Indian female hit woman who desperately tries to work out who wants to bump her off and wipe out her estranged family, and the other about a Russian gangster's daughter who is forced to reconnect with her dark and sinister past she has been trying to escape from), a couple of sci fi and fantasy film and TV scripts, a karate based TV action series set in an exotic location (this was originally Thailand but I'm most likely to shift to Spain - presently my favorite travel destination from my home base in the UK), and my feeble writer's attempt at helping to address the biggest threat posed to us all (climate change) by developing an animation series called Eco Kids (a group of scientists are sent back from the future to help save the planet but regress into kids). In addition, I often work across corporate videos and create engaging e-Learning content (I've recently been busy working on a professional UK university level diploma course that's taught to engineering students and been creating over 100 hours of motion graphics/green screen/animated video content).

It's lovely to connect, and I look forward to becoming even more active on Stage 32 in the days ahead.

Great to meet you, Alexander Shaida, and welcome to the community! Awesome, congratulations on hitting the ground running after your screenwriting diploma! Have you been pitching your scripts to any Stage 32 executives? I think you should! https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/pitch-sessions Definitely reach out to our Director of Script Services, Jason Mirch, who is excellent at matching projects with potential executives (or managers, in your case): J.Mirch@stage32.com

Also, if you'd like any help preparing your pitches, I would highly recommend joining Stage 32's Writer's Room. It has a ton of resources, including member-run events, like weekly Pitch Practice Sessions. If you're interested, be sure to ask Jason for a link for your first month free.

Otherwise, you may have already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely check out the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read!

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Nice to meet you. I am currently stuck in Marin County CA. ( Not a bad place to be given the pandemic). But call Spain my second home. I have 4 feature film screenplays and 2 tele series that I co-wrote in developement. 6 Best screenplay awards. Never studied screenwriting, but I've read enough scripts to figure it out, Before the Pandemic I traveled often to the Philippines. They have a hugh film commuity there. For over 100 years. I also have an action/adventure script set in Thailand and California. Hopefully one day it will see the light.
