Introduce Yourself : Good evening from the U.K. by Kelly Eastman

Kelly Eastman

Good evening from the U.K.

I’m incredibly excited to meet you all. I am currently on the start of my screenwriting path and at first I did feel like a creepy, nosy imposter, however, now I feel blessed to have an opportunity to read, to learn and to connect with such talented individuals who are either newbies or are absolute pros in their chosen field.

Cannon Rosenau

Well, Kelly Eastman good morning from the US ;) I will look forward to the posting of your first script and logline. There's nothing like finishing that very first one and the feeling of accomplishment it brings!

Kelly Eastman

Hi there! Oh, I can only imagine how that must feel at this stage :)

I’ve just read through your loglines and they sound like you know what your doing (all sound brilliant) so thank you for taking time out to comment on my post.

Maurice Vaughan

Glad you were able to get over that imposter feeling, Kelly Eastman. We all deal with it from time to time. If it ever creeps back up, here's a blog about overcoming Imposter Syndrome: https://www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-overcome-imposter-syndrome-as-a-crea...

Daniel Stuelpnagel

Cheers Kelly Eastman, good for you, we each start with a blank page and a tsunami of discomfort and confusion! ᕕ(⌐■_■)ᕗ ♪♬

Maeve ThunderChild

Good to meet you, Kelly Eastman - glad you made it here. Is there a particular genre that most interests your creative spark?

Cannon Rosenau

Haha, you're sweet. Loglines are the enemy. Who agrees?! And also I'd like to also know the answer to Maeve's question!

MB Stevens

Welcome, Kelly Eastman Glad to have you here.

Shellie Schmals

Hi Kelly, So nice to meet you! Do you have a favorite genre you like to write about?

Kelly Eastman

Hi all,

Maurice Vaughan, The blog was very useful thank you! I hope you’re having a creative day.

@Daniel Stuelpnagel, I hope the flow starts soon :) I have plenty of ideas and so on but they are all currently just a whirlwind in the mind and none having an actual end ;) I’m sure this is very normal for many. What are you currently working on?

@Maeve Thunderchild, thank you, I am also glad. You guys are very welcoming and I know how much of an arse kick I will get from being on here.

Myself, I’m drawn to horror, fantasy and comedy and have many ideas but none have a satisfactory ending (insert dramatic tears.) I see your logline is drama and romance have they always been your chosen genres or have you previously wrote others?

@Cannon Rosenau, I have tried to write a few loglines to see if that helps and it has helped somewhat in regards to simplifying my ideas, along with also keeping the spark but it is far from simple to do.

@MB Stevens, thank you lovely. I hope you’re having a great day.

@Shellie Schmals, thank you :) Nice to meet you also. I’m drawn to horror, fantasy and comedy.

David P Perlmutter

Hi Kelly Eastman as well as an author and actor/extra, I am also part of the lounge crew team on this fantastic platform. The blog page is something I recommend, with great tips for writers and anyone in the movie business. https://www.stage32.com/blog! Good luck with all your projects.

Maeve ThunderChild

Hi, Kelly...I always write drama with other elements thrown in. Romance per se isn't necessarily what I write, yet love is always a part of the theme...but that includes love for the world. ;) Endings can be a pain, that's for sure. If you join the Writers Room come to Pitch Tank Practice on Thursday nights to break story...that might help you find your way to an ending you like.

Cannon Rosenau

Kelly Eastman Write down every single whirlwind idea that you have in your head. Keep a file with just those blurbs. Most might not be useful or you may even look back and not know what the heck you were talking about, BUT even if certain ideas aren't able to carry an entire story, you can absorb them inside another script. I've done that a couple times. Sometimes when you take another look at some of your ideas after a a few years of them sitting there, you get a new perspective. They'll know when it's time to be written.

Cannon Rosenau

PS now get to writin'...those are all hot genres!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Kelly Eastman. Yes, I'm having a creative day. Getting closer to finishing a job. :) Hope you're having a creative day too!

Navid Lancaster

Kelly Eastman Hi Kelly how are you? I you have not already feel free to join the Screenwriter Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting

Richard "RB" Botto

So happy that you have gotten through feeling like an imposter, Kelly. Everyone starts somewhere. It's the effort and openness we put into learning, not only about the craft, but how the business operates that separates those who keep moving with momentum and those who stand still. Being active and visible is a huge part of that.

And since we're talking imposter syndrome, and many here have expressed their challenges with those feelings, here's an article I wrote on the subject that I hope will help:

David P Perlmutter thank you so much for this, very helpful. I wish you the best also with all your projects. You sound a busy man.I was lucky to get an extra role in Batman when filmed locally, all was very random and it was a brilliant experience.

@Maeve ThunderChild, well all you need is love as the song goes and thank you for your advice, again so helpful and I wish you all the best with your work.

@Cannon Rosenau, thank you also and yes, I will definitely start doing that. I love the make no sense but you never know at times what’s gold I bet until later on. All the best with your work also.

@Maurice Vaughan, good to hear and yes, I can off here and started to do rather than talk hehe.

@Navid Lancaster, I have not so thank you for this :)

@Richard “RB” Botto, yes, all those insecurities creep up fast haha but it’s always about pushing past them and getting out of your comfort zone. Thank you for the blog recommendation, Maurice had also recommended this one and it was very useful. Have a great week.

Kelly

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on the extra role in "Batman," Kelly Eastman! Which Batman?

Kelly Eastman

The Dark Knight Rises Maurice Vaughan I never planned on doing any work as an extra and did not even know at the time it was for Batman but a case of right place at the right time I guess :)

Stephanie McNutt

Oh the imposter syndrome. It is the beast of burden for writers everywhere. A fellow newbie here, and still getting my feet wet writing. Cheers!

Maurice Vaughan

That's pretty cool, Kelly Eastman. What scene were you in? And how did you react when you found out it was a Batman movie?

Sam Mannetti

Welcome Kelly! If you need guidance as a new screenwriter I recommend checking out some of the services Stage32 has to offer with industry executives, they want to help you advance your craft. I'd take a look at the Career Development Calls: https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/coverage/buy?id=6. Christina Pickworth would be a great choice as she is UK based. There is also First 10 Review: https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/coverage/buy?id=20 where you can get feedback on just the first few pages of your story, if writing the full script seems daunting. Let me know how it goes!

Sille Larsen

Hi Kelly! Welcome! So excited to hear you just started your screenwriting path, I remember when I started mine! I can tell you it will be hard sometimes, but you will love most of it, especially when you find your melody in the writing you won't be able to stop! that is a fact!

Can't wait to follow your work.

Best,

Sille
