An update on the Iranian Director

Here's an update on Saeed Roustaee, the Festival de Cannes award winner.

It's sad to hear that he is basically in probation for 5 years and forbidden to make any films. He also has to take a filmmaking course, no doubt forcing him to think like they do and not "contributing to propaganda of the opposition against the Islamic system"

It's good to see he has Martin Scorsese on his side, though!

That's terrible, Geoff Hall. I'm glad Martin Scorsese is backing him. I hope Martin Scorsese having a big name will bring a lot of attention to this so Saeed Roustaee is freed and his suspension is lifted, as well as other filmmakers in the same situation.

It is good to show concerns for him and situation(s) as a fellow creative. Thanks for posting Geoff Hall!

Sam Sokolow

What a brutal story. Art has such power but people who see artists as threats are usually the threats themselves. Hope Scorsese can make a difference and bring other artists and filmmakers to Saeed's cause.

Bill McCormick

That is injustice writ large.

Geoff Hall

Sam Sokolow so, this great, powerful regime is frightened of a film called “Leila’s Brothers”. Hmm, interesting…

Thanks for listing the name of the film Geoff Hall, was looking for it, couldn't find it amongst data provided, probably mistake on my part. We have "Sound of Freedom" and "Leila's Brothers", both films (according to trailers) displaying basically, simple themes and simple stories, that already have been heard.... It's not the first time the world is hearing these stories. Here's the question! What's the issue "This Time"?

Ray Gh , thanks for the info.

Sad. Really puts into perspective how differently people are treated in other parts of the world. Thanks for sharing Geoff Hall

A matter of concern. Are these folks claiming to know more than the "Director" AND, "His Awards"? In other words some method of some kind, for the most part seemingly "unknown", to the industry!... It's on my mind for many reasons!

Eon C. Rambally Hi Eon, in a word, Yes. Because the State always knows best! Authoritarian States always think they have to control every cultural narrative.

A prime example of this was the Nazi’s ‘Degenerate Art Exhibition’ in Munich, 1937. It was meant to educate the German people in matters of good taste, whilst simultaneously showing ‘good Nazi German’ art, so that people could see the difference. Sadly for the Nazi Regime, but happily for the German people, it failed miserably, as more people attended the Degenerate exhibition than the Nazi Art exhibition!

Joseph Follansbee, understood clearly! Still impressive!

Geoff Hall I’ll say this.

My fellow creatives! Derivatives and matters, for discussion. “The truth” is, the world has matured so much, since 1937, with the use of, "the power of the mind". It is recorded, in times past, “the truth shall set you free”. Our modern world also says to some, “you can’t handle the truth”. The truth is also, if you are told half-truth and believe it. It’s what you'll can’t handle. When you are told, "the whole truth and nothing but the truth, So help me God", you are then “able to… Judge”!! The consensus about half truths is paramount. As entertainers and human beings, we need the truth and “The power of the mind”. Thankful for the power of the mind and truthful, “rewarding talent”! With resonance, in a “matured, modern world” of “intelligent eyebrows”, it is disturbing, in God’s name, to learn one being arrested or targeted, for such!...Fascinating however!!
