Born in Texas, and raised mostly down on the coast, I might have lived and died a Christian right-wing red neck, had it not been for my friend Geoffry, son of one of the rare Jewish intellectuals in our small town. With his family's encouragement, I ended up at the University of Texas, where I first tried to become a marine biologist, because I loved the beach. I was slapped upside the head with Organic Chemistry, which just didn't have the ring of truth to it. Much of what they were teaching back in the '70s has since been found to be, as I suspected, absolute bullshit. Luckily, one day my roommate came home with a camera and invited me to help make a movie. I was so naive that I didn't even know you could study filmmaking in college. Once I found this out, I changed my major and never looked back. My first student film with sync sound ("The Dancy Street Museum") was nominated for an Academy Award in 1975. Of course, this convinced me I was a "boy wonder", and would soon be taking over Hollywood. In fact, I was so smart (and gullible) I thought I could bring Hollywood to Texas, so I slogged along for over a decade making and various other business films and small-time low-budget movies that went nowhere. I finally did move to San Francisco, then Hollywood, Santa Cruz, and San Diego when I was in my late 30's. But it was for the computer biz. Which is a whole other story...
Now, decades later, after escaping an infamous religious organization some believe to be a "cult," I went back to Texas for a while, and now I'm on the coast of Oregon. My brain is too creaky to be a programmer anymore, but I can sure write.
I'm in a very prolific stage in my life, with scripts, essays, songs, and poetry just pouring out of me.
I still haven't figured out how to get PAID to write. It's the only thing I've ever really been good at. I guess I'm not the sharpest turnip in the patch! So, if anybody knows how it's done, please let me know.
Unique traits: Curious. Hard working. Enthusiastic. Gullible. Optimistic. Generous. Gregarious. Eclectic. All of which, when mixed together, could explain why I'm not rich. Yet!
