Horror first feature film script: Last revisions & working with index cards before formatting

Hey guys, it's Daniel the filmmaker here!

And finally, it's time for the final formatting of my Horror first feature film's script.

Last revisions and check-out, before I go to work.

For this part of the process, I employ a valuable technique I've learned while at The London Film School, I use 8x10 cm index cards, where I've written all my scenes and then stick them on to a vizualizing panel.

This method compels me to look at my film as a whole connected story, instead of a series of separate scenes and isolated events.

Everything is an interconnected structure and there is some causality from scene to scene.

Now, we'll complete the formatting, and then we'll move on to phase n.2- pitching to production companies, hoping to start production for late Summer.

Thank you guys & stay tuned!! ✍️

Daniel Latteo Hi Daniel, I’m using the same technique for a new story. It really helps to visualise the beats and the flow of the whole story, doesn’t it?

Hi Geoff, thank you for commenting!

Yes, I believe index cards & visualizing panels are still the best method to keep control of the flow and see the story as a whole. Anyways, these were the first stages of my work, about one month & a half ago. I just recently finished my script... So happy about it!!

Cannot recommend the index cards on a big wall approach enough! A great way to look at your own work from a different perspective.

Daniel Latteo great news, Daniel. Well done on completing the screenplay.

It'll be too confusing for me...I work with a story layout "cooking" in my head up to detail, then I write treatment, then I'm onto script...some 80-90% of the ideas get ditched in the initial head process, some 5-10% make it to treatment and just about 2-3% into actual scripts...

Thank you Geoff!! I appreciate it!

M Night Shaymalan and many director/writers storyboard the entire script shot by shot.

And then there are directors like Herzog who dont use storyboards or video assist playback on-set! Good Luck!

I do all my outlining in FadeIn. I tried the board approach, but the whole get up to have a look approach was disruptive to my flow. I want to access my notes with a click of the button.
