Excited to join!!

Hello everyone. I'm Manley Irish from Sanford, Maine. I've been screenwriting for 15 years but never knew how to make connections in the industry. I've always avoided networking afraid of losing my material to someone without integrity. I entered my screenplay in a screenwriting contest only to see scenes in major pictures within a couple years later that looked extremely close, if not spot on, to what I have written. Could be just coincidence but it scared me to the point of staying away from others in the business for years. Now with more confidence and knowledge, I'm reentering the world of marketing my talent in hopes of selling my script and possibly being a help to others like me.

Hey Manley, great to have you in the community! The Happy Writers sounds perfect for you! You are able to pitch your scripts directly to executives, and I've seen TONS of people get signed and get their work into production through the pitch sessions. https://www.stage32.com/happy-writers/success-stories There are also a lot of amazing people in this community looking to collaborate. I recommend watching On Stage with RB coming up on Tuesday. It's free and our CEO RB goes over the best ways to network effectively on Stage 32. :)

Welcome to the network, Manley. The screenwriting community is quite strong. In addition to all Shannon's (fine) recommendations, be sure to check out the Screenwriting section of the Lounge as well. Always a wide variety of inspiring conversations happening over there. Great to have you in the mix!

Manley Irish

Thank you both for your warm welcome. The happy writers looks awesome, I will definitely be checking that out. As far as "on stage", I signed up this morning. I look forward to collaborating with others and not only making it to the top, but helping others do the same.

Richard "RB" Botto

Look forward to seeing you On Stage, Manley!

Hi Manley! Welcome to Stage 32! I've only been here a short time, but I've had some excellent experiences so far and I'm looking forward to many more :) Good on you for taking another leap of faith and getting back out there. PS: I would also recommend checking out the Pitch Sessions! I've done several in a very short time and had some very positive feedback :D

Manley Irish

Thanks Margaret.

Hi Manley... Welcome... The experience of seeing almost identical scenes (or even complete films) to what you've written is called the "steam-engine" effect. In short, Stevenson's Rocket wasn't the only steam-driven engine being developed at the time - his wasn't even the first. It was just the most successful which led to it being the most famous. A similar thing happens with ideas/screenplays etc. I experienced this first-hand as I had an idea that I was developing and then saw the film "Jumper". I realised that almost every concept in that film was the same as that which I'd been working on. I was told recently at a screenwriting course that in reality, plagiarism and copyright theft is a rarity and that once committed to "paper", your copyright exists.

Thanks David.

Thank you for sharing your story and I'm glad you found the confidence to return. finding you confidence is a great feeling. You will find great connections on here and I wish you all the best with your projects.

Manley Irish

Thanks Antonio.

Mike Romoth

Welcome. I've been on here about 6 months and really learned a lot about becoming a professional screenwriter, and the huge differences between a professional screenwriter and an aspiring screenwriter (someone who has written a lot but never sold anything). This site is awesome. Avoid the bickering and listen to the sages...they are here and they do participate.

Big Mike is in the building! That's what's up, Mike! Happy Friday! … Where my Pre-Pros at?! Let's go!

G. K. Holland

Manley Irish

Thanks G.K.

Dig your style, G.K.

Hi Manley.

Cc Lindh

Welcome! It's important to take risks. Screenplays are blueprints for films & they are meant to be shared! Maybe just enter top tier contests & or find people at Stage 32 to produce and make your own films! (Hard to steal stuff then!) Cheers & all the best! cc
