Where are our faith-based and faith-friendly writers?

What an incredible webinar today with founder of Higher Purpose Entertainment, Brad Wilson. He shared some great insights into writing the faith based and faith friendly genre. What were some of your favorite take aways?

Amanda Toney

I loved the case study....and so many great questions from you guys, too!

Amy Heebner

I loved the story about how he first met Robert Duvall when Duvall was making TENDER MERCIES, one of my favorite films. from Amy Heebner in NYC.

HB Duran

I signed up for this webinar but ended up having to miss for work. I look forward to the replay!

I think that 40% of the UK say they are atheist and others report no religion. I don’t know about Australia or the USA.

I think it is a niche less people are interested in writing for.

T.L. Davis

I work in that space, but on the edgy faith-based aspect to it that not a lot of producers are looking for. I have one script placed with a notable producer and Brad has another one. Meanwhile still working on others inside and outside that genre. Just to answer the question.

Michael Elsey

I could not make the live session but will listen to the on-demand version. I had a great pitch session with Brad. He is a very kind man and a gracious listener. It was amazing how a pitch session could be inspirational. And he met and worked with one of my writing heroes Horton Foote!

Angela VanZandt Bumpass

I think it is a great path for a Southern writer. I agree faith films need to show more of "real life" situations and not be preachy. There is a huge market for this in the South and Midwest Heartland. It can be done without religion for any market but with good solid values. The Meanest Man in Texas looks wonderful and has just the right amount of spice. It was great seeing Brad after pitching to him a few times. I love it that he knew Horton Foote because an agent once told me my writing style is similar to that of Mr. Foote. I can only hope and dream! Thank you for a great webinar with a nice man from Texas.

Good point, Angela VanZandt Bumpass about not being preachy. And congrats in advance for your 1st wedding anniversary!

Thanks, John! I married a wonderful man!

I've written three faith based screenplays. There isn't tremendous appetite for the faith based material at this time. My first project was a nativity story. No bites. My other two stories are faith based wrapped around more modern subjects.

Tony Ray

I think the 90's was the time for faith-based films. Unless, of course, when you say 'faith' you mean just religious belief in general. Then you might have a better chance.

Chris J Johnson

Well done Brad and Amanda! Illuminating - the differences between Faith Friendly and Faith Based, and the potential markets for each. Looking forward to the Production Webinar.

I attended the ICVM (International Christian Visual Media) conference and learned a new term about films that are not faith based but contain faith based elements. I learned the term from Bob Saenz who is a very prolific writer and the term is "Faith Adjacent Films".. Go figure.

Is William Gomes still interested in faith-based and family-friendly screenplays? If so, please send me an email -- zrd9000@aol.com. I am not familiar with the website, have found it a bit time-consuming.
