This system unites the entire island chain to the east of PNG. Certain items are only produced on particular islands. Other items are produced elsewhere in the archipelago. The items are traded in a very ceremonious way and the networks of trade and obligation that results, binds clans and families across the vast seascape of the archipelago. The images here are of Andrew, this island's only "Bagi" maker. He is drilling out tiny red shell disks for the traditional necklace which his people create and inject into the Kula Ring. The Bagi are traded for beautiful sailing canoes made by people on the outer extreme of the island chain and once in the island chain economy, they are traded for "Mwalli" another form of traditional adornment, from where the two traded instruments become a form of legal tender. There is so much to tell about this incredible system. I think it deserves its own documentary.
Hi Joe, great to make your acquaintance. Let me know when you need to get deep into the jungles of PNG or Australia. Cheers, Paul.
Cheers Stanley, if your road takes you into the jungles of Oceania I'll be happy to get you there. Paul.

Hey Paul, a few days ago we implemented a new privacy setting to give you the option of accepting private messages only from users within your network. Today, I discovered a bug with the way this option is set for new users. I just wanted to let you know that the bug is now fixed, so all members are now able to receive private messages from any other member (the default setting). If you'd like to receive private messages only from users within your network, you can change this setting here. Hey Samuel, I wanted to let you know about our new Updates section. We'll be posting all new features and site enhancements here in the future. Today's updates include photo captioning, our new theater resources section and enhanced privacy settings. Be sure to check back often. Plenty of new and exciting features are on the way.
Hey Kelly, I just wanted to give you an update on a couple of recent additions/refinements to the site. First, we've added the ability for you to upload a resume to your profile. Just click on the "Resume" link in your profile menu to get started. We've also refined the Screenplay section. For starters, we've added the option to add a screenplay synopsis. We've also streamlined the layout making it easier for others to review your screenplay's title, genre, and logline. Thanks. --RB
Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
How about and a peaceful enlightened person. Stupid Question again because these are not choices we can make.
Hey John...Have an opinion, but abuse of members will not be tolerated.
I tend to toggle quite easily between the two - often in a space of a few moments.

Caving mostly but with a film maker along to recce the location for her fantastic idea. She swore me to secrecy so no details but if she has her way, she's going to make a lot of people think, and probably clean up in the process. The cavers were very happy with the location. 24 caves explored in three weeks. They have never been so busy. The village, was also very happy and have been thinking deeply about all that we had discussed in the past when I was there with the Beeb. They thought we were like another famous TLA*, the WWF and had come again to tell them not to cut their trees down, thereby missing another opportunity to make some quick bucks. Many, mainly middle-aged, villagers want to do that, and many, the old and the young, do not. The ones who do were quick to get tense and distrustful and machete-wavey, but I managed to get our purpose across. From here, the discussions frequently returned to the topic of the tribe's economic future and what options they did and didn't have... Actually! Now here's an idea... A doco about how a recently contacted tribal people comes to terms with the two conflicting economic development futures from which they must choose. Logging or eco-tourism... Happening in real time as their contact with the various interests intensifies and decisions are made and outcomes become clear. A happy showcasing of the trials and challenges of developing a successful and sustainable village economy in one of the remotest places on Earth... or a melancholic, "told you so" lament for the places we're loosing so quickly. Would someone be crazy enough to even fund something like that...? * Three Letter Acronym
