PBS Open Call for Emerging Filmmakers

It was just announced yesterday, but I thought I'd share it here. It looks like the full details will be released on March 1st, but it's still worth keeping on your radar.

What projects are you working on that could find a home on PBS?

Finding content is very difficult. Here in Oregon we have the Open Lens on OPB and my own small Independent Filmmakers Showcase. I'm trying to keep it local because if I do a feed to PBS for national distribution - it's going to be far more work than I want.

I'm thinking of opening/expanding the Open Lens platform once again for High School & University students - we'll see. I have offered slots to some of filmmakers here on S32 but very few have even responded (a couple have).

All I can do is make the offer available to S32 participants; they respond, or not.

Thanks for the share @Karen Just a quick question. Do you, or anyone else know are PBS looking for films only to be filmed in USA? Or does anyone know if they consider Euro/UK ETC. Just don't want to look a greenhorn emailing them. LOL.

Tasha Lewis

Thank you for sharing this valuable resource Karen. I love PBS.

Debbie, PBS runs a lot of films produced all over the world. We see a lot of BBC productions along with quite a lot of other UK films. They are basically a venue for exhibiting films; not so much into producing (they do a few). The various state PB systems are affiliates having some access and a number of tv production companies (KRON, KOIN come to mind) provide content.
