Hey, I’m Adam, from sunny Britain.
I’m a developer by trade but have been learning the ropes of screenwriting on and off since 2018. My passion for story and film came WAY before then.
I write dark comedy dramas (dramedy?) and a recent surge of energy and time has left me with a 108 vomit draft for a feature and also the majority of the first draft for a 30min comedy drama which draws a lot from familial experience in childhood regarding addiction and dealing with loss.
Looking to network, improve my writing, develop pitches and help others where I can (story structure is a strong point).
Say Hi, let’s connect and help lift each other up yeah?

Adam Harper Hi Adam, welcome to the IYW! How are you doing and how is life in Keighley? I live in Bristol and I’m concerned that you live in sunny Britain! Is there another Britain that I don’t know about?

Thanks everyone!
Geoff Hall i may have been too optimistic in my description of Britain haha
@Maurice great question, hard to pick one - big fan of Coen brothers and Martin McDonagh. Let’s go with Fargo as that was a big catalyst for my interest in scripts
@Sam great to meet you too. I’m working on a series pilot that follows a barely functioning alcoholic coming to terms with the loss of his best friend. Really excited as the themes of addiction and grief are something I can write from experience. How about yourself?

You're welcome, Adam Harper. "Fargo" is my favorite too. I haven't seen the show yet.

I really like the show too but not seen the latest season. If you like other Coen brothers movies there are lots of nods and winks in the Fargo series to their other work

Cool, Adam Harper. I want to watch "Shogun," then I'll probably watch the "Fargo" series or "Yellowjackets."

@Adam Hi I'm one of the Brit's on here too and understand the "Gritty Brit Drama Genre" you are so passionate about. The vintage kitchen sink dramas are also a favorite of mine. I've only written one gritty Brit drama cos I specialize in horror. Obviously it's too British to be funded by USA but putting it out was not a waste of time cos a producer in India liked it and asked me for a synopsis for something else. Good to see you hear!

Nice to meet you Debbie, that is great news about the producer liking your script. That helps motivate me to get my scripts in a sharable state! See you around :-)

Good to see you here, Adam Harper! And you're right, it's about lifting each other up. I love it that you write from your personal family experiences. There's a message there about overcoming that the world needs to hear.

Nice to meet you. As a Yank I was mildly baffled why you were extolling the virtues of a hockey mascot. Now I've learned something new, so thanks for that.
