Screenwriting : A Moment of Motivation by Tiffany Hilliard

A Moment of Motivation

Writer's Block is real. Loosing inspiration or motivation is real. Your creative juices are blocked in your mind and won't go onto the paper, into the laptop is real. Life's circumstances are real.

BUT....

Your calling and purpose is real. The folks who need to hear your stories, see your stories are real. Getting back up from having a down moment is real. Finding yourself and developing progress is real.

I just came to say, don't stay beating yourself up, for I too have been there and is there, BUT I'm making the decision to want better for myself, to pick up the pen and write one more time. You can too!!!

Thank you for the motivation! I just ended a period of writer's "depression" and I'm happy to say that I am excited every day to write once more. One tool that I always like to use when I feel this way is the book "the Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. She emphasizes "filling the well" of your creativity by doing joyful, fun things that inspire you. Tiffany, what helps you get out of a funk??

Tiffany Hilliard

It's my pleasure! I'd say listening to music and watching interviews of people that I would want to work with, kind of crazy, right? I watch those interviews to get a better fill of that individual to see how I would want to place them in my story.

Doug Nelson

I'm not sure that 'writer's block' is such a 'real' thing but I do know after years of experience that the writer's path is is littered with false turns and detours. That just seems to be the way it is. If writing is your passion, know that you'll find a way.

Mike Romoth

"Your calling and purpose is real"!!! I wish you a blessed day and hope you find success with your good attitude.

Craig D Griffiths

I am a solitary being. But when I feel I have run out. I get on forums, skype calls, go for walks. I fill myself up with life again. I use the world as raw material to build stories. Foe example, I was on a call with a friend. His 13 yo daughter is struggle with her sexual identity. He is lost. His only fear is that she is unhappy. He doesn’t know what to do. He loves her and she knows that. But it is tough on all involved. I feel redundant as a friend.

I am not saying I will ever exploit this story. But life gives you perspective. It served as a reminder that fear can come from everywhere, not just world ending monsters. We can fear for the feelings of people we love.

Matthew Parvin

Awesome insights, Tiffany! Great words, important words and so true. Every time I write, I feel like I'm doing what I was meant to do. I feel fulfilled, even if I only get a page out of the session. That feeling is the fuel that keeps me coming back.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Jonathan Kramer

Years ago when my focus was short stories, I learned about a Steven Pressfield book titled "The War of Art" and read it several times. Bottom line: he points out how resistance impacts all aspects of life, creative pursuits included. I HIGHLY recommend everyone read it

Tiffany - struggling through the ordeal will teach you a lot that makes it easier in the future. My mantra is 'this too shall pass'. All the best wishes.

Tiffany Hilliard

Jonathan Kramer, thanks, will definitely look into it.

Doug Nelson, now that statement is true, thank you and likewise!!

I look for external sources of inspiration. Primarily in the living world. It frees up your mind to work passively. Gardening, caring for animals, observing how animals & plants survive and behave in the natural world allow my mind to think freely without being burdened by the tawdry factors of life in general; including stress. You just stress yourself out more ruminating about the block.

Tiffany Hilliard

Hanna Strauss, that it is so true.
