Not directly, E — what I’m talking about is the upstream structure creators need before any formal process or framework comes into play.

It’s the clarity layer that sits before formatting, pitching, or any industry system.

Alternatively you can focus on the characters:

When _______ (inciting incident) happens, _______ (the protagonist) must _______ (goal) otherwise _______ (stakes.)

When new logline formulas are posted, S32 Members must run and hide otherwise their heads will explode.

Thank you for shearing. I think that in a logline it is important to clarify certain things; how it sounds is secondary. I use the following structure:

1) Who is the hero

2) The hero’s goal

3) Main obstacle \ antagonist \ main conflict — what \ who prevents the hero from achieving the goal

4) The outcome — win or lose in achieving the goal (or an intriguing question)

Example (of the script "Assumption", I am working on): When a priest fails to dissuade his mother from euthanasia, his goal becomes to restore her faith in God and lead her to repentance, so that she may have a chance to enter heaven. How far will he go, and is he prepared to face the secret his mother has hidden her entire life?

Good example, I think is the following.

A paraplegic Marine on a mission to Pandora must choose between his orders and protecting his newfound home.

As a former Disney filmmaker I can completely understand why this was done, but I believe the rollout and the subsequent announcement was handled horribly.

I would bet that billion dollars also includes proprietary infrastructure for the animation studio to incorporate within the pipeline. And likely creating a VFX pipeline. Currently, most of the live action VFX is farmed out.

In a bit of kismet, I have been digging deep into a few older documentaries on the animation side, as I am producing and directing one about the shuttered animation studio in Florida. WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY and INSIDE PIXAR both lay a lot of evidence as to how Disney has ALWAYS tried to stay ahead of technology.

Meanwhile they vehemently protect their IP, the Google/MidJourney/Gemini lawsuits aside, they are known for going after daycare centers that dare paint their characters onto murals.

Where I think Iger has lost his touch and hurt the company is in the core value of its artists and stories. This is what would have Walt rolling over in his Frozen bed more than the tech.

Disney is widely noted to be, if not abusive, callous about its employee futures (I only worked on Disney productions, never for Disney, so I don't know first hand. You perhaps do). And certainly about its ruthlessness in asserting and controlling IP. But I don't think anyone really understands their long term reasoning for this move, if they themselves understand it. Compare to the Larian cafluffle, which is to my eyes ironic because the same devs screaming now that concept artists could lose jobs (none of them have) are the same group who happily cut voice actors out of the equation as soon as possible. Even more ironic is attacking Larian for this in light of the fact that Baldur's Gate 3 featured amazing voice actors who were already prominent in the gaming space, and who are now (following Clair Obscur) now moving into star status - all because Larian insisted that the human experience was more important than production timelines.

Looks like Disney sold out their soul years ago already - I hopethis investment is actually applied to their theme park rather than their upcoming movies...

I’m with Laurie - and more to the point Baron - what metrics are you using to value your work for these filings?

I've gone through chain of title with many projects, it's typically not that complicated. The only time it becomes complicated is when there is more than one writer. In that instance I can see this "packet" being useful, (valuation aside), however the buyer is still going to go through their typical due diligence process.

Great question — and this is actually where the misunderstanding usually happens.

The valuation in this filing isn’t trying to predict what a buyer will pay.

It’s not a market valuation, and it’s not meant to replace due diligence.”**

The metrics I’m using are strictly upstream metrics:

- scope of work completed (drafts, rewrites, treatments, bible, pitch deck, etc.)

- creative labor inputs (hours, stages, contributions)

- developmental maturity (concept → outline → draft → revisions → supporting materials)

- documentation completeness (ownership clarity, contribution history, chain‑of‑title hygiene)

- comparative context, not comparative pricing (similar properties only as reference points, not predictions)

These metrics don’t tell a buyer what the IP is “worth.”

They tell the creator what they’ve actually built.

Downstream buyers will always:

- run comps

- assess audience potential

- evaluate risk

- negotiate based on their own models

Laurie is absolutely right about that.

This filing sits before all of that — it’s simply giving the creator a structured, documented asset instead of a loose collection of files.

It’s not trying to shortcut the buyer’s process.

It’s preparing the creator for it.

I have a patent for an alternative design for landfill sites and remember going through the Patent Process as a strange but interesting lengthy experience. Just saying.

That makes total sense, David — patents force you to think structurally long before anything is ‘ready.’

A lot of creators never get exposed to that kind of process, which is why upstream clarity becomes so important later.

Unfortunately, I see many colleagues who decide to entrust their posters to gpt / nanobanana & co., achieving results that are certainly visually appealing but still suffer from the same flaw as all AI-produced art: the total lack of awareness and purpose. AI doesn't create for a cause, it creates by imitation. Otherwise, I agree and am happy when the work I do meets the director's vision. Happy holidays to you and your family :) - Ugo
