We find ourselves once again at another Introduce Yourself Weekend, a chance for us to...uh...introduce ourselves. And, once again, I present my usual challenge: Figure out the theme to my post, and you win points. This one may be a bit on the difficult side, so for the 48 HOURS you have left, I'm awarding 48 points -- THE ODDS are, you can do it.
Let's get started. IS THIS THING ON?
(These Introduce Yourself Weekends do kind of make us feel a bit EXPOSED, but that's the point, right? It's like a WORD PARTY! Or, that's ONE WAY to look at it...)
My name is Doug Kayne, and I am a screenwriter, award-winning improvisor, actor, comedian, and all-around smart-ass out here in Los Angeles. I'm a member of the improv sketch comedy group, Those Four Misfits (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com, shameless plug!), and I also teach and perform improv with Joy Theater. Teaching has been an OCCUPATION, but clearly the entertainment industry is where my passion lies.
Acting-wise, I've done short films, feature films, web series, and lots of theater work, including some I MADE myself. I just found out last week that a movie I have a short yet pivotal scene in, The Heiress, just won the Best Ensemble Award at the Las Vegas Film Festival. IMAGINE if it ends up winning an Oscar!
Writing-wise, I have a sci-fi comedy series, Going Commander, ready to pitch and get picked up on a streaming service, a horror short, Chips the Clown, in pre-production, and I'm collaborating on a Thundarr the Barbarian spec, a tropical detective series, and a few other things that are in the discussion stage. After a bit of a ROCKY start, we are a bit closer to getting a couple of teaser scenes and Chips filmed. We just need that final PUSH after schedules all align.
I'd love to connect with and work with creative, cool people and help them get their stories told. Feel free to hit me up to talk shop, collaborate, or discuss a shared love for Star Wars and comic books! In ANOTHER LIFE, we'd be able to do all that without help, but the entertainment industry is a collaborative one, and I'd love to help! DO THE RIGHT THING and help others.
