Robert Johnson (1911 – 1938) is one of the greatest musical mysteries and influencers ever. His Delta Blues songs were the source of the blues genre and influenced every major artist of the 20th century, from Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles to Eric Clapton. His vaguely documented life story is stunning as a poor, broken-down, untalented Mississippi Delta guitar player. As legend tells, he met the devil at a local crossroads and traded his soul for singing and guitar virtuosity as original as Adam and Eve. His fame endures.
