Hello, I have a question: Is Netflix interested in TV Show Ideas without a Script of the pilot? I'm not a screenwriter, I'm a composer/sound designer based in LA. I think I have several good ideas for TV shows and I'm developing them in order to have a Pitch document of about 10 pages to present (thanks to Chris's webinar!) but I don't have a script for the pilot. Thanks in advance for your answer. Claudio

So recording will be able for 48h for us to watch it? :)

:0

What she's saying about shooting the different set ups is so crucial to understand. Screenwriters have to understand what it takes to get what's on the page on the screen. "Coverage" as it's called can radically change the pace of the story and the production.

Really grateful to Stage32 and Netflix for these webinars, thank you to all involved. What Jeanette is saying might seem obvious yet this is the first time I'm being forced to think about all these different elements. Especially that point about reducing driving scenes unless it's supporting the character or story! Never thought about it in this way before. It's 1:18AM over in Sri Lanka but super glad I'm staying up to watch this

Vielen Dank Jeanette. This has been very interesting so far. Just curious if you know what specific budget concessions were made for THE BOYS? It’s been a while since I watched it, but it seems to break all the great advice you’ve been giving i.e. it has a HUGE cast, multiple locations, animals, children and of course is very VFX and stunt heavy.

@Amy Maki I don't think the fantasy genre has to be avoided, it just needs to be a little more savvy. I'm thinking of Ladyhawke: very few special effects (even though "magic" is involved) and the climax of the story occurs without any visual effects, giving so much more weight to the scene.

e37e7ee31ea2e4b6de96d4ae05e3689d_1600720827

@MartinReese -Not to worry. You will not scare away a producer with a scene of fighting dragons, if the scene does what you say and is important to your concept. You could ( don’t have to) check in with a VFX company and see what they would charge to put the scene together. May be interesting to find out what it costs entail.

Thanks, Jeanette. Actually the dragons aren't fighting they're just flying overhead like birds (a flight of dragons is equivalent to a flock of birds) But I get what you're saying. I do know a couple of VFX folks. It might be helpful to at least have an idea of how it impacts the budget.

@Amy Mäki - I would consider "Game Of Thrones" fantasy - it worked well I'd say. I don't think fantasy is a genre to avoid. New Screenwriter here!

At the moment I'm rewriting my sci-fi feature film as part of my degree. Though I'm based in Germany, I'm hoping to connect with other screenwriters :)

Samantha Lee

Welcome, good luck with your degree , have to say didn't really attend school, everything I have done I have taught myself, slow process but getting there

Matthew Parvin

Welcome and nice to meet you. Exciting to hear about your degree. I'm also working on a degree; though it is more for my "day job". Can't wait to hear more about your experience!
